Faith Spilling Over… Into Everyday Life

Embracing the Everyday Miracle

Early this December morning after Christmas, I breathed a sigh of relief and wondered, “Did giving three parties in five days mean I’m a certified nut case, or could I just be an obsessive compulsive party lover?” Where did that fit in with my resolve to down size December and take the holidays slower this year?

Really, I loved every minute of it, but this morning while it was still dark outside, I enjoyed a peaceful moment drinking coffee and reading God’s Word by the light of the Christmas tree and candles.  I wanted to savor the truth of God coming near to us, reaching into our world through the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable.

I want to embrace the miracle of Emmanuel: God with us. God with me. God with you.

  • God with you in the kitchen.
  • God with you in the car as you drive through heavy traffic.
  • God with you at work.
  • God with you at the doctor’s office.
  • God with you when the kids are fighting, you’re racing to finish dinner, and the doorbell rings.

I’m amazed by the words of the God who is with me:

“I am the bread of life…

...Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)

“I am the light of the world…

…Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

“I am the good shepherd…

…The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)

“I am the resurrection and the life…

…The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” John 11:25, 26

Truly He is with us, and He meets all of our needs.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. As 2013 draws to a close, I hope you can take time to slow down and embrace the miracle of God with you.

What are your plans for the last days of this year?

I want to enjoy the everyday life God is giving me as best I can, even when the road gets bumpy. I love having fun with my teenagers, learning almost anything, and drinking dark roast coffee with my friends.

  1. I felt God’s presence with us this Christmas season. For the rest of this year, I’ll be cleaning out a closet, finishing a homeschool transcript, and planning some new direction with my writing. I’m always uplifted and encouraged by your blog, Betsy! Thanks for sharing this beautiful reminder that God is with us through it all!

    • I’m so glad, Lisa. Today was the first time in a very, very long time I had no plans and no responsibilities. (kind of. :-)) Like you, I hae a few house projects, as well as planning and working on writing!

  2. Like you, I enjoy my quiet times with God, surrounded by soft Christmas tree lights in the early, still morning. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were busy and full of activity and joy with our three grandsons, daughter, and son-in-law. Today I took it easy!

I’m thinking of you and praying for you way over there on the other side of the earth!

  3. all God’s blessings in the New Year, Betsy!
