Faith Spilling Over… Into Everyday Life

How I Almost Lost My Kids in a Circumcision Parade

How I almost Lost my kidsWhen neighbors invited us to their son’s circumcision celebration, we had no idea what to expect. We’d only lived in Turkey 4 months. When we arrived, cars were lining up at the curb with doors open. Kids were piling in, thrilled to participate in a parade to celebrate Necat’s big day. A drum boomed and a clarinet screeched. My 5 year old boy, Andres, immediately jumped into the big red convertible where Necat sat, accompanied by the drummer and horn player.

A neighbor coaxed 3 year old Camille out of my arms and into the convertible.

“Can’t I go with my kids?” I asked.

“There’s not enough room,” she explained. “Don’t worry. They’ll be fine. It’s always the kids’ favorite part of the celebration.”

Horns honking, drum and clarinet playing, the procession took off, and my kids disappeared while I stood at the curb watching…

I’m honored to be guest posting for my friend Katie Reid today. Follow this link to read the rest of the story and find out what a Circumcision Parade has to do with trusting God. While you’re there, have a look at Katie’s beautiful site. She’s a kindred spirit who uses her photography, singing, and writing to point others to Jesus.

I want to enjoy the everyday life God is giving me as best I can, even when the road gets bumpy. I love having fun with my teenagers, learning almost anything, and drinking dark roast coffee with my friends.

  1. Well, HERE’S a title you won’t find on any other blog today!

  2. Hi Betsy!

How is your summer going? I tagged you on Twitter but thought I’d email you too. Sometimes 150 characters just isn’t enough! lol

I took a Christian blogging course with Arabah Joy this summer, and now she is offering it again. It is specifically targeted at Christian bloggers and how we can promote our blog while still honoring Jesus. I’ve done several trainings in the past, but none that was specifically targeted at Christians, and I was surprised how much nicer that was!

It’s cheap too, only $62.10 for the entire 6-week course, and I couldn’t believe all the material she gave us for that price! Plus she was very active on the Facebook group page, answering questions and giving extra help. I actually think she could charge a couple hundred dollars for this course, but this is only her second time offering it. I’m wondering if she wants to get things figured out before she amps up the cost?

Anyway, just thought I’d pass it along in case it’s something you might be interested in. If you sign up by tomorrow, there are three freebies you will get. If you use my code JDW10 you get 10% off (and I get a thank you from Arabah).

She has a nice page that describes the training (and your freebies) here:

Take care and have a blessed rest of the summer!

  4. I saw this title a bit ago and needed to come back to it. Now that caught my eye! Always love your graphics and love how you bring us into your Turkey life. Letting go of your kids, oh my, that’s a heart stopper. Love you friend!
